Autumn and Carmen's Story

  We have a unique story about Autumn and Carmen to share. On the evening of March 8th, Autumn delivered her lamb. Unfortunately the baby died at birth. Autumn was initially distraught over losing her lamb, but she soon began eating and seemed to forget about her lamb. The next day, Autumn started searching for her baby. We offered her another lamb to mother, but she wasn't interested. She wanted her lamb.

  A few hours later,Carmen went into labor and delivered twins. Shortly after her second lamb was born, we noticed Autumn standing at the door of the pen, talking to the second lamb. We decided to see if Autumn would accept Carmen's second lamb. We let Autumn in and right away she started licking and talking to Carmen's lamb;  she cared for it just like it was her newborn! Within minutes, Autumn had claimed Carmen's daughter. Carmen didn't seem to mind that her lamb was being cared for by another ewe. We separated the two ewes and gave each of them a lamb. Both ewes accepted their lambs and cared for them. Carmen has one of her babies to care for and Autumn now has a lamb to mother!

Both ewes continue to take excellent care of their lambs!  The lambs are growing normally and each mother is happy.

Even More Lambs!

 Cinnamon delivered Franklin (13 lbs. 12 oz)
and FayLynn (10 lbs. 9 oz.) on March 7th.

 Dusty Anne gave birth to twin ewe lambs, Fluffy Anne (11 lbs. 4 oz.) 

and Frosty Anne (11 lbs. 5 oz.) on March 8th.

Fernando (14 lbs. 4 oz.) and Franz (11 lbs. 8 oz.) entered the world
on March 8th. Clover is their mother.

Delores gave birth to Foreman (12 lbs. 8 oz.) early on the morning of March 9th.

 Deena's 2012 delivery came on March 9th. Her lambs are Faye (10 lbs. 2 oz.) and Ferguson (10 lbs. 8 oz.).

Fitzgerald was born to Cordelia on March 10th. He weighed 12 lbs. 4 oz. Fitzgerald has a beautiful, highly variegated fleece.

Belvedere gave birth to Farnon on March 10th. Shepherdess Emily had to assist Belvedere with her delivery as Farnon weighed 16 lbs. 13 oz. and was not positioned correctly to be born. So far, Farnon is the biggest lamb of the year.

Faces of Fa'Lisa

   Bernie's daughter, Fa'Lisa, is a cute little lamb!

Our little friend, Keydon, came over to see the new lambs. He took a liking to Fa'Lisa!

 

 Fa'Lisa will be one of this year's nominees in our Cutest Lamb Contest!

Tired Shepherds

During lambing season and after numerous nighttime deliveries, watchful shepherds learn to get sleep anytime and anywhere they can!

Ben takes a quick nap in the wheel barrow while waiting for a ewe to finish her delivery.

So far this year we have had fifteen late-night/early-morning deliveries!

More Lamb Updates ...

 

Darcy delivered twin ewe lambs on March 3rd. 

 Florence (black - 10 lbs. 11 oz.) and Flossy (white - 9 lbs. 11 oz.)

Darla relaxes while her twin boys, Fudge (10 lbs. 14 oz.) 

and Fargo (10 lbs. 2 oz.), impatiently look for some milk.

The boys were born on March 6th.

Fayette was born to Dixie on March 7th. Fayette weighed 14 lbs. 4 oz. at birth.

Lambs Abounding!

Meet some of the new lambs born at Grace Valley Farms!

 Daisy delivered twin ram lambs on March 2nd. Fredrick weighed 11 lbs. 2 oz. and Ferris weighed 11 lbs. 10 oz.

 Dorcas gave birth to her lambs early in the morning on March 3rd. Frederica (left) weighed 13 lbs. and Fred (right) weighed 11 lbs.

Christina delivered her twins shortly after Dorcas. Christina's first-born, Ferrari, weighed 15 lbs. 1 oz. His younger brother, Ford, weighed 12 lbs. 15 oz.

 Clarabelle also delivered her babies on March 3rd! 

Ferdinand weighed 10 lbs. 8 oz. and Faraday weighed 10 lbs. 2 oz.

 Early on the morning of March 4th, Cathy gave birth to her very first lamb. Fawn weighed 13 lbs. 15 oz.

Not long after Fawn was born, Dinah gave birth to her twins. Fanny weighed in at 9 lbs, while her brother, Filmore, weighed 9 lbs. 3 oz.

A couple hours after Dinah delivered, Dora pushed Frito (14 lbs. 5 oz) out. Dora is very protective of her baby and doesn't want anyone getting near her Frito! We call him our Frito Bandito!

March Comes in Like a Lamb!

March 1st was a busy day at our farm! Six mothers delivered eight lambs in less than 24 hours.

Blossom got the day started by delivering Francis at 12:15 am. 

She weighed 14 lbs. 12 oz.

 Darby was next and she gave birth to twins, 

Fenton (9lbs. 2 oz.) and Flo (7 lbs. 10 oz.), at 2 am.

 

Daffodil had her first baby at 6:30 am. 

His name is Falcon and he weighed  12 lbs. 2 oz.

 Caramel got the evening started by delivering twins, 

Flower (13 lbs. 5 oz.) and Fowler (8 lbs. 9 oz.).

Dee gave birth to Farah at 10:30 pm. She weighed 12 lbs. 1 oz.

Shortly before midnight, Heidi brought Filly into the world. Her birth weight was 14 lbs. 5 oz.

Desibelle's Twins

Desibelle gave birth to twin lambs on February 28th.

Felix - 11 lbs.

Fionna - 7 lbs. 11 oz.
